I'm making an unsubstantiated guess that there are many more gargoyles atop heritage buildings in the City of Fremantle than there are in Perth city, based purely on the fact that there are significantly more heritage buildings. Fremantle takes their heritage very seriously, thankfully. Unlike European water-spouting gargoyles, the two pretties here on the St Patrick's Basilica Presbytery, scroll down, are an ornamental touch of Gothic, not nearly as frightening as their European counterparts :) Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..
I have a fondness for gargoyles and grotesques. You can't have too many of them!
ReplyDelete...one classy building with great details.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful building and interesting gargoyles.
ReplyDeleteI love these vintage Pacific buildings, G!
ReplyDeleteI like that they are just there because. We need more of these guys to give us a lift when we spot them!
ReplyDeleteThey're rather splendid, aren't they? They are actually grotesques rather than gargoyles as gargoyles by definition have to double as waterspouts - it's part of their job description!
ReplyDeleteI quite like them, they are something different that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteThey are so unique, I like them. Nice find!
ReplyDeleteThe most gargoyles are rain spitters and not on the highest point of a roof but more near a gutter. Also it looks more like a chinese dragon so I agree with John. This are no gargoyles. Hope not to disappoint you with my vision.
ReplyDeleteNot scary at all! In fact, that one is rather charming. They are fun to find.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know there could be gargoyles on such new buildings. These ones are amazing and have the most beautiful effect
ReplyDeleteIt's a very handsome house. How lucky is that Fremantle was ignored in earlier years and many buildings were not demolished to 'modernise'.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful building!
ReplyDeleteThat sure is a wonderful old building.
ReplyDeleteThis building looks a little like an architectural version of a decorated cake.
ReplyDeleteThat really is a lovely buildng. Keep well Diane

Beautiful building. Nice pics.
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting. I usually think of gargoyles as being on the side of buildings not sitting on the ridge cap ... but now I think about it they do in Chinese architecture.
ReplyDeleteWonderful villa! Arianna
ReplyDeleteI had to look up that word gar..... can't find an explantion. But I suppose they are those creatures on top there?
ReplyDeleteThat´s true, Grace, they do look friendly indeed!
ReplyDeleteI´ll keep my eyes open if I find some here, too.
I wonder how many people actually look up and see these delightful creatures!
ReplyDeleteI like gargoyles. They're really cool. They'd take them off before the wrecked a building, wouldn't they?
ReplyDeleteA stunning building and I adore gargoyles, and have one outside myself, not quite this cool but they gift us with good luck! Protectors!
