While taking shots of the lighthouses in yesterday's post the ginormous 'apartment block' sized container ship came into port from Gage Roads. It's a shocker of a shot above, hand held long lens and all that :) but I wanted to show the two tugs shooting out to guide this monster in. Pretty amazing to see the comparatively small tugs taking control, a bit like herding a very big cow! Spot the red lighthouse on the North Mole, I was on the South Mole...
A quizzical look from the seagull as I lean out to take the last shot of the container ship disappearing into the distance.. well I guess it's seen it all before :) That's the WA Maritime Museum to the right below.. Bon weekend, take care and stay safe...
It's massive... and it looks so top heavy. I wouldn't mind a peek inside the museum.
ReplyDeleteMassive indeed!! I do love the seagull and what great shots for the day!! And I also love those blue skies and blue, blue water!! Enjoy a lovely weekend, Grace!!
ReplyDeleteHuge container ship, I've seen them before but you just can't get over the size of them
ReplyDeleteHuge... and French (London, yeah!) Lovely poet's name.
ReplyDeleteThose ships are so HUGE!
ReplyDeleteHard to imagine the days of the old sailing ships that used to transport goods around the world. I wonder what these containers held inside.
ReplyDeleteI love to see these sea shots
ReplyDeleteon a shimmering shiny sunny day
where you also see tugs
chugging about
just off the sea shore
to help the ships
find their way.
We lived in Ft. Lauderdale for many years and the Ft. Lauderdale port entrance is almost a duplicate of this and we would spend lots of time sitting on a pier taking photos of ships with the help of tugs entering the port. Great fun and your post brought back many good memories!
That's a huge ship!
ReplyDeleteLove the seagull....
I never know why these things don't tip over in a good wind, Grace! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI actually heard of one that did tip over. Several families from Houston who were being transferred to the Middle East. All of their household belongs went into the sea. Love the last shot of the seagull.
ReplyDeleteThat ship is huge and it makes the others look so tiny. I agree that the bird probably has seen it all :)
ReplyDeleteAmazing that a ship can be so tightly stacked and yet sail comfortably and even safely. Stunning scenes of the ship in action.
ReplyDeletecontenair ships are not very beautifull but very colored
ReplyDeleteThe output of China coming to a shop near you.
ReplyDeleteExcellent shots.
Grace that is so enormous, I'll never understand how ships float with all that weight or come to that how 'planes stay in the air...
ReplyDeleteThe seagull maybe thinks you were photographing him? :-)
ReplyDeleteGood shot Grace. Those ships are spectacular and what those tiny tugs can do is amazing. My boss is an ex tug Captain he tells all kinds of war stories.
ReplyDeleteYou caught a monster! Loved this series! The final shot was eloquent of the peace in the behemoth's wake!
ReplyDeleteThat thing is huge. The seagull looks bored or maybe he's watching you in case you have some food!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful series of pictures depicting the piloting of that humongous ship!
ReplyDeleteThe arrival of a major ship is always an important time. For the crew it is another successful trip across the sea, and for the town it is the arrival of goods from far away places. Great series.
ReplyDeleteA super series of shots. Its humungous!
ReplyDeleteI must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
ReplyDeleteTo the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife.
John Masefield.
Crazy, Grace. That´s insanely huge!
ReplyDelete:-) The seagull, aww.
That is one heavy load. You and your steady hand did a great job with the pictures.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures Grace, that container ship is huge! It's amazing how the smaller tug boats manage to pull such a cargo!
ReplyDeleteThe ships have become so huge nowadays. You can't call them hardly ships anymore. They are floating monsters.

These are great shots...wonder how many containers are on it. It sure looks like a bunch. Wouldn't you love to know what is in them. I am always a nosy person, I guess. But I do wonder do they come from various places, or all from one place. I cannot imagine them all being filled with the same thing.
ReplyDeleteMonster is right! I'm I imagining that each one of those containers in carrying some type of goods from far away places.
ReplyDeleteYep, that container ship is HUGE!
ReplyDeleteI wish I were here, to look at the docking of several ships...amazing monster! Arianna
