Put up your dukes.....!!
I was pretty excited last night as Aimee and I were having our walk through Pinnaroo, to spot these two big fellas having a bit of a sparring match. The boxing kangaroo is an Australian national symbol which you will have seen at the Olympic Games and other big sporting events, but to see it occurring before your eyes is quite a spectacle! I loved this shot above because you can see that they have both feet up and are totally balancing on their tails, how cool is that! The other thing that impressed me is their height, you don't realize until they stand full upright just how tall they are. Let me assure you here that this was not a serious fight, they were just 'monkeying' around haha! and letting off a little steam. We watched until they got bored and then they just hunkered down and carried on with diner. Here we are again at the start of a new week, more than anything else let it be a peaceful one.....
In past times, watching men pit themselves against a boxing kangaroo was a prime attraction at travelling fairs!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure who usually won those contests - but I wouldn't put myself anywhere near those killer hind legs and feet!!
GRANDIOSE, ces photos sont géniales. Championnat poids lourd, c'est impressionnant, surtout la premiere photo
ReplyDeleteWhat fantastic photos, Grace! They're particularly fantastic to me because I do love kangaroos and can't even imagine what it would be like to see them in the wild!! Awesome! Glad they weren't interested in checking you and Aimee out!! Hope you have a great week -- it would seem to have gotten off to a good start!!

Wow, Grace! Marvelous photos! What a treat to see them "acting out" - and of course, how fabulous to have your camera when you needed it! Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to see them in action! great photos Grace.
ReplyDeleteGreat set of shots!!
ReplyDeleteI'm in awe; have never seen anything like it1 Wow! A wonderful series; you could do a retrospective at the local art museum with photos like this; or better yet, tour the US!
ReplyDeleteI have seen sparring roo's many times but have never managed to get pics. This is a great set Grace. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteThese are just wonderful Grace. Beautiful images. Thank you so much for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteWell captured.
ReplyDeleteawesome ! thank you very much for this glimpse of what feels like a different world. please have a good new week.
ReplyDeleteWow! That is incredible - I can't imagine just stumbling upon such a display. And we worry about our squirrels - your wild creatures are fierce.
ReplyDeleteThat's fantastic. I've only seen a staged battle with tame 'roos.
ReplyDeleteThey almost look like they are waltzing!! (Today I can see all 6 shots- yeah!!)
ReplyDeleteI trust you but at first i thought this was a movie-type special effect. Was there betting on the outcome?
ReplyDeleteGreat action shots. Boxing Kangaroos, how cool is that?
ReplyDeletewow, thats amazing. i never saw a kangaroo in real life. now im wondering whether i ever saw one in a zoo.
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny. Great shots.
ReplyDeleteThese shots are just amazing! How wonderful to see these fellows in a natural environment and enjoying themselves so much!
ReplyDeleteBonza photos. I read somewhere that Kangaroos balancing on their tails like that can reach a height of 7 foot. I wouldn't want to meet 'em in a dark alley when there are looking for a blue :-).
ReplyDeleteGreat captures, Grace! I certainly hope you were well out of the way and that zoom lens was working overtime...
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, those photos are so cool! I can't believe you get to see these guys while you're just out taking a walk!
ReplyDeleteGosh!:)
ReplyDeleteUnique and great action shots!!
- Happy new week to you!
Such a pity that we learn about kangaroos so early in life and then just take them for granted. Whatever would we make of them if, like Capt Cook, we were confronted with them for the first time when we were adults? Astonishing beasts! And shown to full advantage in your photos.
ReplyDeleteLes photos sont magnifiques et surprenantes, chez nous il n'y a pas de kangourous. Bravo.!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou've just made my day with these!
ReplyDeleteComme ils sont mignons! Mais je doute fort que ce soit pour l'amour l'un de l'autre qu'ils dansent ainsi...
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a family dispute.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a wonderful experience with your amazing pictures.
ReplyDelete:-) Dorthe
it must be impressive and fabulous to see such a thing in real life!
ReplyDeleteThey put on a great show for you. My mum didn't like them, She was living in the bush area of the Gold Coast, grewsome sweet corn, only to be eaten by the kangaroos.
ReplyDeleteMy post today is Tree Kangaroo, less well known than yours, but is facing extinction in PNG.
Fabulous action shots Grace ... and they end up having a hug ... delightful!
ReplyDeleteGreat photo's! Amazing how big they are and can balance on the top of their tails.
ReplyDeleteHey, great pix Perth. I love the one where they appear to be hugging each other, I hope neither of them was hurt putting on a boxing match for you!
ReplyDeleteWow -- what awesome captures! That must have been such a thrill to witness in person. (I can assure you I won't see anything like that in Sarasota today.) :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a 'dance'! These are some amazing captures, Grace! Great post.
ReplyDeleteWonderful series of shots. You have captured the moment beautifully.
