Flouncy dresses and the 'Seven Year Itch'..

OMG! The vibrant yellow orchids here have to be the hardest flower I've ever tried to macro. I shot with bright inside light, outside in natural light, with the macro lens, the prime lens, you name it I tried it :) still not happy with results! The tiny exotic blooms reminded me of Marilyn Monroe's dress flying up in the famous subway scene in The Seven Year Itch..  do you see it? As you might have guessed it was a quiet day yesterday :) Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe...

Mid-autumn blues.. and silver linings!

I took these shots yesterday afternoon standing on Mullaloo Beach, about ten minutes from where I live, looking up the coast towards Ocean Reef Boat Harbour. What attracted me to the shot was the formation of clouds disappearing away into the distance in little puffs of white, grey and maybe even the odd silver lining :) In the shot below you can see that same cloud formation looking back the way I had come.. the colours of the sky and sea are an ever changing mystery don't you think!

... and look at that! Very high in those clouds a feathered predator hovering. It's not a good shot, I only had a moment to change lens but if you pull it in you can see the falcon, head down searching before he swooped on his unsuspecting prey! They are pretty amazing to watch in action. Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe...

St. Johns Lutheran Church..

While chatting over lunch yesterday with mon ami français Marie I mentioned that on my travels I often come across lovely old churches in the most unexpected places, many surrounded on all sides by residential, business and other modern premises.. 'Ah oui' says she 'but remember how different their surroundings would have been when they were originally built' :) One such church in Northbridge surrounded by Central TAFE buildings is St. Johns Lutheran Church, the exterior walls built using stone from the Darlington quarries in the Perth hills. The door was open, next time I will go in! Hope your week has started well, happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..

Monster from the deep..

The main reason we went to Fremantle last week was to look for this new mural by English artist Phlegm. Fortunately we didn't have to search at all, there it was! When you come into the port city on Queen Victoria Street, the main road entering Freo from Perth, you can't miss it on the side of the old naval store building. Directly over the road from the harbour it couldn't possibly be in a more ideal spot.

Painted in early April this year as part of FormPUBLIC 2015 the detail in Phlegm's work is phenomenal, remember his piece here for FormPUBLIC last year. There's much history along this stretch near the harbour.. Cantonment Hill has been used for military purposes since the early 1900's, looks like the signal tower has had a bit of a (t)art up also!

I was lucky to get this shot below without any cars obstructing the view as it's a really busy intersection, I'm standing on the river-side of the road. Isn't it fantastic, I think it will be there for a while, I'm almost sure there are no plans to knock this building down. Croque Madame with Mrs S..

Caught up with sisters and nieces yesterday for brunch at Mrs S in Maylands, a tres popular weekend brunch spot. We had to wait a while for a table to free up, the days when you could phone up and book a table are long gone. It was worth the fifteen minute wait, brunch was excellent and even though Perth has a reputation for being expensive, if you pull in the menu below, what do you think? My Croque Madame at $13.50 was worth every scrumptious bite :) Aren't those menus too cute!

'Bringin' booty back'!

I love creative signage, a chalk board that brings a smile to the dial! The sign above advertising cup cakes and other sweet treats at the markets and even though I was tempted, I resisted. My 'booty' never left :)

This is more like it. Spotted in Leederville (remember this one Iris) outside my favourite hamburger joint. I was tempted to whip out my chalk and add Perth Daily Photo, as a definite, to that list of 'probable' celebs :) who appreciate a low carb super bun from Grill'd, seriously good! Brad Pitt, George Clooney et tout, you don't know what you're missing. Hope you have many moments that make you smile this weekend. take care and stay safe...

Revolution! Turning full circle..

The City Daily Photo theme this month is 'revolution' and although Perthites will rise up and make their voices heard when the government makes unfair cuts in essential areas, le guillotine is yet to make an appearance! I tossed around a few ideas.. my washing flying around on the iconic rotary Hills Hoist, an artistic shot of the sprinkler throwing water around a parched garden.Then.. an epiphany! I love an epiphany :) What do you and I spend time watching and waiting for? A complete clockwise revolution or a hundred of the often annoyingly slow refresh sign! Can't wait to see what everyone's come up with, happy Friday, take care and stay safe.. p.s. I really must clean my laptop screen :)
