Creative advertising!

We went into the city yesterday afternoon to take photos of something pretty special.. it's been a few weeks since I was last in the city and I was happy to see it was still abuzz with surprises. Along the way to the 'something special' we were a little sidetracked by a) a very hot French busker doing amazing things with his body.. show you later :) and b) it was pretty hard to miss the enormous feet protruding out into Forrest Place!

.. and look at that! Tres cool way to advertise the return season of Wicked The Musical oui! I have to confess when I saw Wicked in Sydney, I did nod off a few times, but in fairness it was after an early morning flight from Perth, although to be honest musicals and I don't hit it off so well, all that singing does my head in :) Will edit and show you that 'something special' tomorrow and the hot Frenchman later in the week. Driving in the fast lane!

I don't think I'd ever be brave enough to drive in Sydney traffic, so many cars, so much horn tooting it's a lot little disconcerting.. I can't remember the last time I heard a toot in Perth :) Our roads are definitely getting more congested but nothing like as much. In Sydney my son can parallel park in spots that I wouldn't give a second glance! Perth drivers have a dreadful reputation for being bad 'mergers', personally I've never had a problem..

Here we are following a fabulous vintage Citroen Traction Avant into the three lane (both sides) Graham Farmer Freeway tunnel which is the quickest route from my side of the river (north) to the airport, one day hopefully there will be a train service from the airport to the city. You have to agree the old Citroen is the classiest looking car here, although it does conjure up images of Elliott Ness and Al Capone :) How do you handle mega busy traffic, do you stay calm or panic! Home again!

Back safe and sound, and the good news is that I really didn't find the flying experience as nerve-wracking as usual, perhaps I'll even get to the stage where I don't have to pop a pill to board the plane :) It was brilliant to see my son and daughter-in-law and to be there to join in the fun of my granddaughters first birthday party. When in Sydney I cannot resist the beauty of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.. I've watched documentaries about the construction of the bridge and am in awe of the accomplishment. A few different angles here. As the chap above climbing the steps to begin the bridge walk turned and gave me a wave I couldn't help thinking.. I'm sure you can guess what I was thinking :)

For the first time I noticed there were a handful of locks along the bridge walk, one in particular was very moving. Aimee has details over on her post today..

I'm not sure why there was an octopus in Darling Harbour, guess it came up with the sub :)

Our hotel was just five minutes from Darling Harbour and look what I found on the way to breakfast one morning.. a portrait of Jack Mundey by Portuguese artist Vhils, j'adore his work so was pretty thrilled by this discovery..

The main reason I brave the flight twice a year, such a gorgeous wee girl. Here with Aunty Aimee looking out over the waves at Bondi Beach, she was exhilarated by the wind, it was pretty chilly, blowing in her face. By the time you see these shots taken last night after dinner at Hillarys Boat Harbour I'll be up, up and away to Sydney. If you knew how terrified I am of flying you might guess how it was for me yesterday.. so excited to see my gorgeous granddaughter who has just turned one and at the same time filled with claustrophobic fear at the thought of stepping on board the plane. We've had a fair bit of rain the last few days, making the skies a little more interesting than constant blue :) Below, boardwalk reflections leading along to the BREAKWATER tavern, I see I caught a night rower there! God willing :) I'll be back next week, until then you take care and stay very safe...

Arty Vic Park..

It's been a while since we last went to Victoria Park.. I don't remember there being so many excellent sculptures. From the shot above can you guess what this might be, don't peek below :) Oui it is a reel of film.. even two reels..

.. but look, it 'develops' :) into.. a bench, how tres cool is that! A reminder 'of the golden era of movie theatre'.. 'The Real Seat' created by Mehdi Rasulle sits outside the old Broadway Movie Theatre, closed since 1964. I like it a lot!

Meet Penny and Pounder.. 'stamp emblems that date the construction of the Post Office'. The Penny Red? any philatelists out there who can add more? Just one of the many sculptures around WA created by Fremantle artist Greg James. That kanga has attitude :)

.. and last but definitely not least, a sculpture by Shaibu Kanyemba titled 'After the Rain' how could I not fall in love with this one. There isn't anything quite like the smell of rain after a long dry spell and the unfurling of plants starved of moisture, j'adore! 'Jumping the Shark'!

We drove to the inner city suburb of Victoria Park yesterday to find a new mural by Fieldey.. painted at the end of March as part of Form's PUBLIC 2015. On the side wall of The Good Store on Albany Highway this is another Fieldey spectacular, remember this one. The artist's  inspiration for this piece came from the phrase 'jumping the shark' originally used in an episode of Happy Days. Definitely not craft:)

An unexpected and highly delightful bonus, as I moved around to take a different angle shot there it was on the back wall of the same building.. another James Giddy treasure, you saw him here last Monday, I was more than just a little happy with my double whammy! Also part of Public 2015 and painted at the same time, I imagine these two talented artists caused quite a stir on the streets of Vic. Where big brother goes, little sister follows and of course cousin just won't be left behind :) As they disappeared into the tree I couldn't help thinking of Picnic at Hanging Rock and waited with bated breath until they came out through the other side.. only kidding :) Did you guess who the princess would be!

Easter wouldn't be Easter without rolling the eggs (painted boiled eggs) down the hill and a kick around of the footy.. family times. That was my Easter Sunday, how was yours? Happy Monday, take care and stay safe...
