Lunch in the 50's..

Oh my gosh how about that funky wallpaper :) Always enjoy stepping back into the 50/60/70's in the Mid Century Cafe. Orange and lime green really were the colous of the day, not to mention flying ducks on the wall and hands up who had a fondue set 😉 I've heard they are making a come-back, is yours sitting tucked away in the back of a cupboard, now is the time to get it out, happy dipping :) Hope you have the best weekend that you can, take care and stay safe..

Yup!

Even on the beach! We take our mask wearing seriously :) The guy above was running on the beach with his family, setting a good example.. the family that runs together stays together! Took these shots at Sorrento Beach five minutes from home last weekend when it was cool and raining, bliss! Happy Friday, take care and stay safe..

Still smouldering..

Picture overload today. We took a drive out to Bells Rapids yesterday to see how one of our favourite hiking trails had fared after the horrendous fires last week. It would have helped if the three days of rain we had over the past weekend had come a week earlier but it did boost the water level in the river making the few green trees surrounding the water look a little like an oasis. More than 10,000 hectares of bushland were destroyed, the home to many a creature.. amazingly the birds were still singing.

Above yesterday and below an early morning view looking down into the valley from the lookout point when we were hiking here last year, so beautiful, all gone.. but not forever, the Australian bush is resilient, it will look like this again sometime in the future. Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..

Thank heavens for the sunset..

I don't often take pictures of sunsets and it's not even a particularly dramatic sunset, more of a gently slipping away below the horizon kind of sunset, but after a week of lockdown, devastating bushfires to the south west of Perth and floods to the north I felt the need to sit quietly and reflect on the positives. We have been so very lucky through the pandemic and although eighty six homes were lost in the fires no lives were lost in either of the disasters. West Australians have come together in their typically generous way to support those who have lost everything, I knew they would. So there we are, we have had enough drama so a gentle sunset to hopefully ease us into a quieter time ahead. Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

Masks in the city..

I know in many parts of the world masks have been part of everyday life for a long time now but for WA it's all a bit new. Up until our five day lockdown last week we have been lucky, through clear government decisions, to live a normal life, albeit with sensible distancing and much hand washing. The five day lockdown was seen by some states as an overreaction but the majority of West Australians were fine with it and already it is over and businesses up and running again. We will wear masks until Sunday the 14th February and providing there are no new cases life will return to normal. Was pleased to see 99.9% of people in the city yesterday wearing a mask, I tried to capture a wide age range..

Spotted the car and masked men below on St. Georges Terrace, P tells me the car is something special, I couldn't be more uninterested in cars if I tried but it's blue and I like that :) Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..

Anti-Vitruvian..

When Leonardo DaVinci sketched the Vitruvian Man based on Vitruvius' theory that the length of a man's, and, let's give him the benefit of the doubt, presumably a woman's, outspread arms should be equal to that of his/her height, as brilliant as he was we humans rarely conform to perfection. For instance I always thought I had long arms but it turns out my outstretched arms are 2 inches shorter than my height.. yes I did adopt the pose and measure, go on you know you want to do it too :) Anti-Vitruvian impeccably drawn here by Perth artist Lucia Tennant aka Loosh appropriately in the Inner City Crossfit facility.. Happy Monday, take care and stay safe..

On the street.. a city of contrasts.

Took these shots last week on the one slightly cooler day we had had up until then. The contrasts are possibly more apparent on St Georges Terrace than any other street in the city.  Skyscrapers interspersed with heritage buildings along the main stretch, while the beautifully tended Supreme Court Gardens and the Supreme Court building itself is on the opposite side..

... and from the tranquility of the gardens you can just see, towards centre of the pic below, the glass towers of the Ritz-Carlton at Elizabeth Quay rising up and peeking through the trees. There is a chance of rain this weekend, I can't wait! Happy weekend, take care and stay safe..
