The
Kokoda Track Memorial Walk is
'a tribute to the bravery of Australian
troops who fought through atrocious conditions and against vastly
superior numbers in the Papua New Guinea campaign of July 1942 - January
1943'. We chose to walk down the track which begins just north of the
State Memorial in
Kings Park and is 150 steps (vertical rise of 62mtres) down to Mounts Bay Road..
A man passed by us a few times on the way down, I asked him how many times had he been up and down.. eight times, that's a whole lot of steps! No sooner had we reached the bottom when we had to climb the steps below..
This part of the walk was very pretty.. and flat :) Along Mounts Bay Road..
... across the Freeway foot bridge, I should have taken a shot of that, and into
John Oldham Park. This park is a gem so close to the city with it's magical woodland and waterfalls..
It looks like a harmless street doesn't it.. you couldn't be more wrong. Not for nothing is it called Mount Street! This was the killer part of the walk for me. If the Kokoda track has a vertical rise of 62 metres this is similar but so much longer, below the beginning and..
.. below looking back from half way up! Taking us back to the top of Kings Park and a much needed coffee and
breakfast.. have you noticed how many of our walks end that way 😉 It wasn't that long a walk, maybe 4 or 5km but Mount Street, oh boy! Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..
