It was an overcast, drizzly kind of day in Perth yesterday.. by no means cold, 23C as I type this at 7pm, one of those humid autumn days. Reflections of Kings Park in the window of Aspects of Kings Park can brighten up the greyest of days. A glimpse of the War Memorial overlooking the Swan River centre stage. However you are spending your Sunday, take care and stay safe.. 🌺

Sculpture by the Sea 2019.. V et fini..
A little easier this time to get Aimee interacting with art.. above with the early morning light reflections bouncing off the multi-faceted stainless steel of 'Counterpoints' by WA artist Penelope Forlano. The artist's statement 'Counterpoints echoes ancient water droplet and flaked stone spearhead forms. It evokes the eye and the framed view, connecting here with there. The fleeting reflections and material longevity reinforce the temporal and formal counterpoints'. I was taking a quick shot when I heard a voice behind 'what a lovely shot' click, click .. you can see by the shadows there was a group behind all taking pics, hilarious.. Aimee didn't think so 😉
Below, created in corten steel 'Celest' by NSW sculptor David Ball.
I really like this one although on reading the artist's statement 'Celeste is a stargate. It's elevated form lures the viewer to gaze at the sky in a different way, through the tension and contrast of the frail architecture that surrounds them' I wish I had taken the shot from another angle, perhaps looking through the centre to the sky.. one for the return evening visit..
'Draw Houses Make Houses' below created in mild steel by Chinese artist Hu Quanchun is an intricate and clever piece of construction. The artist's statement 'Originally an intervention of a proposed demolition site in Hunan, this work aims to preserve the memory of the current shanty town through the eyes of the local primary school students. The students drew these houses and the local college students helped to produce the sculpture'. Pretty amazing right!
There were so many I missed but we will go back next weekend before the exhibtion ends to take some evening shots.. hope you have enjoyed the few I've shown here. happy weekend, take care and stay safe..

Sculpture by the Sea 2019.. IV
The last time Aimee was persuaded to 'photo bombed' WA artist Denise Pepper's work was here (will have to scroll down a bit). Her piece for this year's Sculpture by the Sea 'SEQUINtial Reflections' was positioned on a slope making it slightly challenging to get more than the top of her red locks into frame :) Created in aluminum, stainless steel and steel fixings SEQUINtial Reflections 'follows on from last year's photo bomb and continues the opportunity to explore our fascination for what is shiny and glitters'.. A fascination for all that glitters is just one of the many things Aimee had in common with her Nan 💛
'Women in Bronze' above by Melbourne artist Sonya Payes looks amazing sitting on the pristine white sand of Cottesloe beach with the Indian Ocean glinting in the background. The Artist's statement 'This work invites the viewer to explore an internal self-reflection, extending themes of regeneration in an anthropocene world where humanity has become the dominant influence on climate and the environment'.
Below created in corten steel 'Shifting Horizons' by Perth based artist April Pine..definitely one to come back and take in the setting sun. The artist's statement 'A series of Corten figures individual in density. Their presence is reduced to line work as a means of mapping and engaging with the horizon. Stoic in posture the works are reflective and considered as watchful guardians'..
Hopefully you aren't all 'art'ed out' yet.. a few more to come :) Happy Friday, take care and stay safe..

Sculpture by the Sea 2019.. III
I always look forward to seeing what Iraq/WA sculptor Ayad Alqaragholli has created for Sculpture by the Sea. 'Marsh Boat' above and below in bronze, concrete and stainless steel plate was a real draw-card. The artist's statement 'This work is symbolic of how the WA coast evokes many memories of the mashoof reed boats that have navigated the Mesopotamian Marshes of my southern Iraq homeland for years. It represents both the joy of the Iraq people and my new life in Australia'. The joy of his work makes me happy..
The astoundingly intricate sculpture 'Vintage Bush Truck' below was woven using palm fronds, bamboo, grapevine and palm branch by WA artist and master weaver Janine McAullay Bott. The artist's statement 'An old truck left discarded in the bush. Still hangs on the character of its vintage style of days gone by. It speaks of early bush tracks and weathered truckies staring down lonely roads. A ghost of itself. A fond memory to many, like grapes which have aged boldly like a fine wine'. One of the most relatable statements in the exhibition 💛
The smooth curves of 'Rolling the Earth' above, created in stainless steel and bronze casting by South Korean sculptor Tae-Geun Yang were popular with art students. The artist's statement 'Reckless development projects are ravaging our planet, posing a grave threat to all living creatures. How can we create an environment in which bears can live and play in peace'. That's a problem that should concern us all. Back tomorrow with more :) Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..

Sculpture by the Sea 2019.. II
Here we go! I usually show the sculptures in the order that we see them as we step onto the beach, this time starting from the last piece at the end of the groyne. Above, 'Entwined' a sculpture in stainless steel and bronze created by Victorian sculptor Ben Fasham. The artist's statement 'Inspired by the family group, I see the two curved elements encompassing and nurturing the central ball reflecting the relationship between the parents and the child. Showing the family entwined together'. I love both the sculpture and what it represents 💙
Above.. 'Cairn' created in steel, coloured and mirrored perspex by Italian/WA sculptor Alessandra Rossi. The artist's statement 'The abstraction and simplification of form contains the light and colours of the landscape in which it is placed, exposing the hidden and the imaginary in a balancing act between fragility and impermanence'. Must get back in the evening to take this as the sun is going down..
I can never resist a lighthouse! 'The Vague but Slightly Illuminated Eye of Perception'.. brilliant title, created in hebel, steel, bronze, solar light by NSW artist Stephen Harrison. The artist's statement 'Broken and dying the lamentable lighthouse, silent sentinels of the world. For my Uncle Ian'. If like moi you didn't know.. this is hebel..
Below the curves of 'Time and Motion' created in copper, corten steel by WA sculptor Ron Gomboc. The artist's statement 'Like every journey, time and motion each have beginnings. Our existence revolves around the anxiety and uncertainty of expectations and the unknown'. So many more to edit come.. happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

Surf Life Saving through the generations..
On the way to Sculpture by the Sea we passed the mural here on the side of the North Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club ski shed. Created by super talented Fremantle artist Shakey for the centenary celebrations of the club. The design spanning the 16m wall 'depicts a timeline of club members representing different generations from past to present, reflecting that the club isn’t just about surf life
saving, it's about family, history and moving forward'. Can you believe I didn't have my wide-angle lens! Sculptures tomorrow. Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..

The lady in the black hat..
In the colourful inner city suburb of Mount Lawley early yesterday morning for breakfast I ducked down the lane-way here to take a shot of the sculpture hanging atop the entrance. I held back for a moment in the hope that someone would walk past as I took the shot and... there she was! The lady in the red dress and black hat stepped into frame. She turned, looked at me and smiled as if she knew.. before stepping out of the picture! I ran down to see if I could catch her but pfffffft believe it or not she was nowhere to be seen.. mysterious or what 😉 Happy Monday, take care and stay safe..
