Binks in the country..

Driving through the country town of Dwellingup, 100 kms out from Perth on Sunday I was delighted to see Wendy Binks wonderfully familiar 'stunned emu' adorning the outside wall of the local supermarket. Perfect quirky character to show the way to the Forest Heritage Centre.Wendy's work is much loved by Perthites and tourists from around the world.

... and how lucky was I, just around the corner on the same supermarket wall the equine beauty below painted by South African born Perth based James Giddy whose work you have seen here many times before, click his link to see more of his work..

Directly across the road we had breakfast in the Blue Wren Cafe.. is it just me or does the country air spike everyone's appetite, that's my excuse for partaking in a hearty breakfast :) Although I'm a city gal at heart country towns are such a treat to visit. Was sidetracked by finding unexpected street art in the country but I will show you the point of the trip tomorrow :) Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe...

Destination.. Lane Poole Reserve.

Take no notice of the shot above it's merely to show that yesterday we were up with the sparrows and on our way to Lane Poole Reserve 100km from Perth. The weather was a bit dodgy but as the sun came up thankfully it cleared and wasn't too bad a day, only had to run for cover once :) Below the country roads are pretty good, here leading into the small country town of Dwellingup..

We stopped for a quick look around and saw in the right hand corner below the Hotham Valley Steam Ranger building up a bit steam, the light was shocking..

Don't ask.. I'm sure there's a story here but it was too early to inquire, it was the acorn in the head that flummoxed me :)

After the rain we've had in the last few weeks the fields were green and lush..

The tarred roads turn to dirt roads as we near our destination.. to be continued :) Happy Monday, take care and stay safe...

Red and white umbrella encore..

I went into the city yesterday to have lunch with fellow Perth blogger Sami before she heads off on holiday. Winter showed up in all its glory, arriving in the city the temp was 10C on leaving it had reached it's top of 14C.. fantastic, j'adore! Umbrellas and plastic macs everywhere :) Check out the last shot, sad empty cafe tables but doesn't the paving in Forrest Place look stunning when wet! More rain tomorrow and the next day and the next day etc. I'm a happy little vegemite :) Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe...

Important notice! Missing meerkats and alien sightings..

Just a few of the whimsical details from yesterdays epic mural. Missing! Meerkats and 'blue crested Venezuelan dove (slightly daft) goes by the name Ainsley'. Spotted.. below, can you see Ainsley up there on the window ledge :) and the two mischievous meerkats hiding in a pot!

Not to mention those 'alien sightings' below..

Did you notice how many times this sweet little dog below appeared? While I was taking these shots many proud Fremantle residents stopped to chat, I was told that this little dog belongs to the owners of East West Design. There were so many wonderful details I could go on and on with this fab mural, but have to stop somewhere :) Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

East West Design.. 'an incidental tourist attraction'.

This has to be one of the most amazing murals in WA. I don't say awesome much, but this is.The mural covers the entire 86mt long shop front of East West Design on South Terrace in Fremantle. The three dimensional fantastical endeavour abounding with quirky details is the work of one man.. yup, one man, muralist Graeme Richards. You can read about 'the man behind the mural here', as you can imagine over that time span there were people to meet and stories to tell :) Btw. East West Designs is filled with wondrous things from around the world.. a woman's dream, a husband's nightmare.. kidding :) Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe.. P.s. please enlarge and have a closer look, so worth it!  P.p.s. I may have to show you some of those quirky details tomorrow!

Chasing bubbles..

Yesterday we crossed the Swan River once again to take photos of a particular event at Curtin Uni not realizing until we found ourselves searching for a car park along with thousands of others that it was actually Curtin University Open Day. It turned out to be an excellent time to visit, the campus was alive with young people full of eager anticipation checking out future courses and possible careers. I've yet to meet a child adult who doesn't love the joy of catching bubbles, below I was spotted and the bubbles were aimed my way, snapped seconds before it burst on my lens :)

The event we went to see turned out to be not as photogenic in daylight as I had hoped but it was still pretty cool. Spare Parts Puppet Theatre 'a large scale interactive sculptural installation that invites everyone to be a puppeteer'. Check out how fabulous it looks at night here.Volunteers from the audience had an unexpected puppeteering experience :) Well that's the weekend over for moi, if you are still enjoying yours, have a good one. Happy Monday, take care and stay safe...
