Feral cats.. man's folly!

It's probable that cats were introduced into Australia by English settlers in the late 1700's. Intentionally introduced to control pests around gold dig sites in the 1800's they have since become a major pest themselves, contributing to the disappearance of many ground-living birds and mammals.. 'management difficult due to the lack of effective and humane control techniques'.  Modern day man can't escape adding to the problem by leaving pet cats behind when they move.. seriously how does one do that and sleep at night! I find the mural here by super talented Perth artist Sugar, found in a carpark just off Hay St. in Subiaco tres poignant, once more man has manipulated nature to suit his needs without thinking of the far reaching consequences! Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe...

Camels... what camels!

Even though there was a lot going on in the city yesterday I was not expecting to see camels on Hay Street! The shot above made me smile.. the look on the camel's face as the gentleman sitting on its back was taking a selfie says it all :) As for the ladies below they didn't even noticed the string of camels crossing the road silently behind them.. too funny and at the same time a little surreal :)

As camel routes go this was a pretty easy gig for the camels of Calamunnda Camel Farm.. mounting up and crossing over Hay St. to Cathedral Square, below Council House in the far background on St. Georges Terrace, St. George's Cathedral and passing the new City of Perth Library back out on to Hay St..

'The grass is always greener' right.. there were definitely a few 'darn I wish I'd taken a camel' looks from the sightseeing bus.. I can't be sure for certain but I think there were more people on camels than on the bus :) Hope you've had/are still having a good weekend, take care and stay safe.. p.s. I bet you didn't expect to see camels here either did you :)

Telethon 2016.. Take one action!

It's a huge weekend in Perth. Channel 7's Telethon 2016, 'the highest fund raising Telethon (per capita) in the world' kicked off yesterday with community events around the city and suburbs. I took these shots of a promo for Bendigo Bank Kids Carnival for Telethon a few weeks ago at Elizabeth Quay. The above shot was the end result of many..'take one, take two, take ten action' :) The coming together of so many characters culminating in a big hurrah at the end was fun to watch, even more fun was watching the many parents in the background trying to get their children to be super animated.. I thought it best to leave them out :)

It was an unexpected and colourful event on a bit of a dull day.. as at 11.30 pm last night they had reached a total of over 10 million dollars with the whole of Sunday to go.. very impressive Perthites, so proud of you! Hoping to get into the city today to visit a few of the Perth Heritage Days 2016 events.. Hope you are having a fab weekend, happy Sunday, take care and stay safe...

Lazy Susan's Comedy Den.. 'comedy is an aphrodisiac'!

After dinner downstairs in the Brisbane Hotel on Wednesday evening, we made our way upstairs to Lazy Susan's Comedy Den to visit Frankie's old jazz and blues bar. The only dedicated comedy room in WA, Lazy Susan's 'Fistful of Wednesdays' happening every Wednesday through October is a totes amazeballs way to unwind after work.. was that a smile I just heard :) I imagine it takes nerves of steel to stand up on stage without a script, improv theatre is risky, it could go either way, on Wednesday evening the cast, and guest singer 'Penetrating Pete' :) above, skillfully creating songs from random audience suggestions, were excellent! The lighting was tricky.. or was it the two glasses of wine, who knows :) A big thanks to the crew at the Brisbane who looked after us so well, merci beaucoup! Happy Friday, take care and stay safe...

Birthday in the Brisbane..

Better late than never oui :) Despite efforts to ignore birthdays, when you have an extensive family, as I do..a family I love and am grateful for every single day.. birthdays rarely slip by! Yesterday was no exception.. from wine and cake at home in the morning through to pizza and more wine in the evening! Neglected for a while the Brisbane Hotel, built in 1898 as 'the local working man's pub' had an extensive restoration in 2004, blending old with new parfaitement! Apart from the delizioso pizza, two languages down :), there was another reason we were there. I'll give you a hint..Frankie's fistful of Wednesdays, more about that tomorrow! Can you tell from the light on the Brisbane that it was a warm 32C yesterday, our first taste of summer this year, thank heavens back to cooler today, I'm not ready yet!! Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe...p.s. could you call the Brisbane a 'flatiron' building?

Line up the hats!

I really must stop using the expression 'I'll eat my hat if..."! I remember saying that when the Florence Hummerston Kiosk was dismantled from its original spot on the Esplanade when the construction of Elizabeth Quay began.. to be stored and rebuilt on the island at the new quay. ' Sure it will, I'll eat my hat if that happens' said I . Actually I said that about the whole of EQ :) Here it is sitting pretty with the Bell Tower behind.. now home to Isle of Voyage it's not a bad spot to take in city and river views. I'm happy to put my hand up when I've made a mistake.. good job too, I seem to make a lot of them :) Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe.. p.s. how good are you at admitting you've made a mistake, some people just can't do it :)
