66 tonnes of rainbow..

Visitors to Fremantle, city of artists, are now greeted by a fabulous new dynamic artwork sitting high in Beach Reserve overlooking the harbour. Described as 'big, bold and very Freo' it was created by Perth artist Marcus Canning and weighs in at 66 tonnes. The 9mt high 19 mt long 'rainbow' was constructed using recycled sea containers. It really is a photographers dream and I can see myself taking many more shots from different vantage points!

Three ships ahoy!

Yesterday was another glorious spring day. We took the opportunity to zip back down to Fremantle to take a shot I should have taken last week, which I'll post tomorrow, and to see what was in port. Fremantle Harbour serves as the port of Perth and is WA's major port. Berthed in this one area there were three big ships, each with a different mission. The Sea Princess preparing to take goodness knows how many thousands of passengers on a cruise to Singapore.. definitely not my cup of tea :) 

... and below 'multi-purpose offshore vessel Ocean Shield which for some reason on the link is red, but showing as definitely moored in Fremantle Harbour.. much more interesting than the pleasure cruiser :) To the right in the shot below a container vessel of some sort, perhaps it had just offloaded the sea of new cars that prevented me from getting any closer to take my shot. What is your Archilles heel?

I have nothing against curves, I like curves.. but when the man in my local bakery pops his head out and asks 'custard tart or vanilla slice' as I linger sprint by I know it's time to get a grip and head over to Chapels on Whatley in Maylands to replenish my stock of silky oolong tea.. not only delicious but also a metabolism booster.. while the oolong is my pick every time, Aimee usually comes away with three or four deliciously scented teas. The graphics for Chapels fine teas  are so cheeky fun don't you think :)   

Meanwhile P has a much simpler method of stopping me from polishing off the ice cream or chocolate in the fridge, as seen below :) What is your weakness, the one thing that you can't resist? Oh if only there was just one thing :) Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

Swans over and on the Swan..

I think this is the first time I've taken a shot of The Old Brewery, formerly the Swan Brewery (image c1890) from this spot. Lucky to catch three black swans flying overhead in the shot below.. I can't swear that they are black swans but for the purpose of  the title, yes absolutely :) The expanse of sky over water appealed to me in this shot. Below behind the brewery you can see the Federation Walkway up in Kings Park, 'a walk among the treetops with a view of the city'.. even with a height phobia I enjoy this walk...

... and in support of the second part of the title.. below, tourists unaware that the black swans on the river can get a wee bit tetchy, especially if you want to take photos without offering fodder in exchange :) Fortunately these two beauties couldn't have been more aloof as they swam off! A nod to the past..

Was thrilled to come across this incroyably colourful collaboration captained by Perth artist Mel McVee aka Melski when we were in Elizabeth Quay last week. Described as a 20m x 2.4m 'paint by numbers' affair involving much community participation, it's all about the riverfront along the Swan River. The black swans, the rowing clubs and my favourite aspect the Perth City Baths c1900, check out the link, how I would have loved to see the wonderful old Moorish design bath house with it's four towers topped with cupolas! All hands on deck!

 It was a fine day for yachting.. cloudy but clear with a strong wind a-blowin' :) I'm 99.9% sure this is a Fremantle Sailing Club event. I will even go out on a limb and say it could be a race in the  Onesails Challenger Cup Inshore Winter Series. I took these shots with my long lens from a very long way away, next time I want to get closer to capture the hoisting of sails and cutting of jibs :) Yachting looks like a lot of fun, pity about the 'fear of deep water' phobia!
