Sculpture by the Sea III ..

Once again embiggening will show the cloudettes sculptures to their awesomesauce best. Seriously if a word like awesomesauce can make it's way into the Oxford Dictionionary, my 'cloudettes' should be an absa-bloody-lutely shoe-in right :) Above 'Lucky Bay' one of a cluster of three 'marine navigational-marker inspired forms' by Fremantle based sculptor Tony Jones. Below 'Gate to the Beach' by Japanese artist Keizo Ushio couldn't be more appropriately placed..

The fluid movement and shape of 'Undulation' below, created in hammer and press formed marine grade aluminum by Victorian sculptor Benjamin Storch was popular with children looking for a 'hidey-hole', children have a wonderful way of ensuring that we don't get too pretentious about art don't you think:)

'Pig of Fortune #2' below, a whimsical piece created in stainless steel by South Korean artist Tae-GeunYand.. 'since the pig is a much loved symbol of fortune and fecundity, the artist endeavours to exhibit the coexistence between humans and animals'.. I kind of like how it looks as if this porcine pretty is in the process of swallowing the fence :)

The bronze work below aptly named 'Fun' :) the work of Thai sculptor Naidee Changmoh 'who for many years has been working in a kindergarten. His artworks are inspired by the pureness and happiness of the children'.. what's not to love about that!

The early morning shadows made it a bit tricky to get a really good shot of the bronze/granite work below, 'Catch Me' by Danish sculptor Keld Moseholm, such a delight and definitely a crowd favourite.. madam's dainty jump pose and monsieur's 'determined to catch her whatever the consequences stance' guaranteed a smile :) Keeping a little something back for weekend reflections but will show a few last beach scenes tomorrow. Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe...

Sculpture by the Sea II..

If you embiggen the shots you'll see this gorgeous beach even better..The good thing about Sculpture by the Sea is that even if you're not a fan of modern installations, and I'm sure there are many :) the setting on Cottesloe Beach is astoundingly beautiful, I mean just look at that sky, could it be any more perfect, those clouds a work of art in their own right! Above 'bubble' 'floating on the landscape' by NSW artists Johannes Muljana and Pamela Lee Brenner looks particularly fetching under a myriad of puffy white cloudettes, new word alert :) As does 'a burden' by NSW artists Suzie Bleach and Andrew Townsend. The Indiana Tea Rooms to the right are a welcome addition in any shot.

This was one of my favourites and I'm not all that sure the photos do it justice. The abstract outdoor kinetic sculpture 'kakashi 2012' by Lithuania/USA artist Zilvinas Kempinas made up of steel snow poles and bird repellent tape shimmered and shivered as those cloudettes passed over and the gentle breeze rippled by. The gentleman below wiping the salt spray from the poles, like most beautiful things.. high maintenance :)

Apart from the size and smooth/rough granite beauty of 'the first experience of a poet #3' by South Korean artist Hyung-Taek Chang it was the little pink sandal left behind that caught my attention and that of the gentleman below. The unexpected addition compelled me to compare in imagination the size of the footprint we leave behind, very much larger and heavier and in many cases more destructive the older we grow..

It has been said that I carry everything but the kitchen sink around  in my handbag :) I can't compete with the burgeoning stainless steel 'traveling bag' by Chinese artist Yumin Jing.. the work expresses the artist's 'enthusiasm and expectation of the city'..

Austrian artist Markus Hofer's 'Der Traktor' states 'every sculpture is a decision, because if you make a sculpture , you don't make all other sculptures in this moment'.. When Mr. Hofer made this installation he was very much in the Australia moment, check the shape of the pink laquer :)

OK enough for today.. I'll leave you with this fun shot of ma fille and 'the bubble no.7' created by Chinese artist Qian Sihua in painted stainless steel. 'In order to prove his existence the artist must exhibit'.. bravo Mr. Sihua, I totes agree! More tomorrow but if you want to see a different view of the sculptures pop over to see Aimee's perspective, even if she did rat on me :) and even more over at Sami's colourful world.. between the three of us you are getting full coverage :) Happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe...p.s. how about that new word 'cloudette'.. I like it a lot!

Sculpture by the Sea 1..

I'm sure it doesn't come as a surprise to anyone :) that yes we did head down early yesterday morning  to Sculpture by the Sea on Cottesloe Beach. We arrived just after 6am as we always do for four very good reasons, one to find a parking easily, two to beat the heat (39C), three to beat the crowds and most important of all to have breakfast before the cafes are overflowing.. coffee at this time in the morning is imperative! The shot above just before sunrise at 6.15 and below about an hour after. The  plan was that we would go off and do our own thing, Aimee along the beach.. can you see the red head down there, there's no denying that Aimee adds colour wherever she goes :) myself along the top on the path...

Well that lasted all of about the time it took for me spot 'the book cave'.. an interactive piece by WA artist Juliet Lea. The work 'allows the viewer to sit within stories looking out to sea, a place for contemplation, dreaming and reading'. Unfortunately I just missed the young lady below doing exactly that.. was fun to see people doing what I was doing, checking how many of the books I had read.. Wilbur Smith, Colleen McCullough, Robert Ludlum, to name a few..  pull these shots in and see how many books you can spot that you have read, let's make it a 'virtual interactive piece' :) As you can imagine this is just the beginning, there are many more shots to come. Hope you had/are having a fab weekend, take care and stay safe..P.s. rather a nice hat left behind on the fence there! P.p.s off to bed early last night, big catch up today!

What to do with old bits and pieces!

If they're interesting enough.. make them into a public sculpture! Oh dear I am getting desperate.. I'm getting out of the house today if it kills me :) I have a plan, a different perspective re the Sculpture by the Sea, hopefully show you tomorrow! Meanwhile back to the 'sculpture' above, made up of I'm guessing now, old replaced pipe infrastructure from the Mundaring Weir. Can any dam experts :) out there confirm? Btw it's forecast 38C today, 40C tomorrow.. I'm so over it! Happy Sunday, take care and stay safe.. p.s. thank you so much for the nice comments yesterday, I won't be silly re my knee I promise :)

Things are looking up!

For me they are! Last weekend I somehow managed to tear a ligament in my left knee, not even sure how it happened but for a while it looked like crutches, MRI's etc. With the magic touch of my physiotherapist and actually doing what I was told for the week, resting, icing, anti-inflammatory tabs etc it looks like it's going to be all good.. sometimes it pays to do what the doctor orders :) I was hoping to take pictures of this years Sculpture by the Sea.. the question is do I behave myself and follow orders not to walk on the sand.. they will be there next weekend, hmmm what to do! Well if there are pics here on Monday, you'll know what I did :) Bon weekend, take care and stay safe..

You've Gouda Brie kidding me.. passe-moi la baguette s'il vous plaît!

I've noticed that many of you are into signs, how about this one spotted on Whatley Crescent in Maylands. Three of my favourite things.. cheese, cheese and good coffee to wash it down, j'adore brie, baked brie oh la! Drool on the keyboard :) how well I would survive in Paris oui! Also in the background Ma Kettles Gardenalia for me and Look Feel Be, so Aimee's style! This stretch of Whatley Cresc. is awash with quirky boutiques and cafes, well worth the trip. For many reasons this week I say with gusto :) TGIF, tell you why tomorrow.. Happy Friday, take care and stay safe...

P.O Box .... Perth WA

Couldn't resist a shot of the mail boxes outside the post office on Eighth Avenue in Maylands, could be because the square shape, the hinges and rough surfaces fleetingly reminded me of rows and rows of old box brownie cameras.. do you see it or is it just moi :)  Maylands is one of Perth's older suburbs and these P.O. Boxes look like they've been around for many years. Tried to find out, unsuccessfully, if the boxes were the originals and had been transferred from the old post office on Seventh Avenue, now a job recruitment office. I've never used a post box address have you? Good for privacy reasons I guess but I prefer my mail to be delivered! Have a good Thursday, take care and stay safe...
