Active Artspace 2015..

Oh how I would love to tell you that I had painted this wonderful floral, but no.. I can only wish! On Saturday we went to Activ Artspace 2015. An exhibition of  artwork created by people living with disabilities. The work above titled 'Bunch of Flowers' by Roslyn Burns who paints exclusively with her left foot while seated in her armchair with the support of her mentor, is the centerpiece of the exhibition auction, some lucky person will be going home with a treasure! There are over 50 pieces of original art in the exhibition, below just a few..

For the first time this year due to popular demand the exhibition has added a photography category and if I had only been a little earlier I might have been in time to snap up this fun, quirky shot titled 'Divas' taken by Warren Wells, just look at those legs :) someone beat me to it! The exhibition will run until the 17th May, so worth a visit. Well here we are Friday once more, seriously before we know it's going to be ... no I won't say it :) Happy Friday, take care and stay safe..

As the crow flies...

As the crow flies you are one kilometre from the original General Post Office on the corner of Barrack Street and St. Georges Terrace..
Artist Anne Neil
Text Maggie Baxter

Forgetting rule number four (?) in the photographers handbook :) to look up now and then, I must have passed this quirky weather vane by Perth artist Anne Neil a hundred times while on St. Georges Terrace.. my bad! Although I'm not so fond of crows, noisy creatures, I think this is a pretty cool feature, I do love the terrace :) Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..

Le bouquet de livres!

Am I the only one who on entering a book shop stops for a moment to breath in le bouquet de livres, the intoxicating aroma of books en masse, bliss! Thank heavens for book shops big and small, without them what would bibliophiles do :) In search of a very special book I entered Dymocks on Hay St and savoured that moment before assuming the position, the book perusing position that is.. bend your neck to the right. fold your arms, focus and begin :) One of the books I'm reading is 'The Spare Room' by Helen Garner, set in Melbourne, a serious subject handled with care, I'm enjoying it very much..what are you reading at the moment? Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe..

Muchas gracias Sr. Curiot.. Mexican magic!

Oh my bloomin' gosh! Walking down Murray St. early on Saturday morning BAM .. there it was! However you feel about street art I really can't see how anyone would view this as less than fabulouso. Painted last month during the FormPUBLIC 2015 project by Mexican artist Curiot the complexity of this huge scale work is astounding, the subject matter.. koalas munching on eucalyptus leaves couldn't be more appropriate.  In the shot below as well as the brilliant blue sky I enjoyed the curved mural following the rounded lines of the QV.1 building behind..

... and how lucky, the eucalyptus tree across the road, mixing reality with art :)

Below looking down Murray St. to the city centre showing the grand scale of this project with city skyscrapers in the far background. The Hertz building never looked so good! Hope you all had a brilliant Mother's day and are ready for the week ahead, happy Tuesday, take care and stay safe..

Mother's Day Classic.. "Life is like a boxing match.."

"Life is like a boxing match,
defeat is declared not when you fall
but when you refuse to stand again"

With winter fast approaching it's a little colder and a little darker early morning, as it was at 6am yesterday, but by the time Aimee and I, along with friends arrived in the city at 7.30 the sun was out and it was the perfect day for a bit of a walk :) Perthites never fail to impress with their enthusiasm for a good cause and the Mother's Day Classic was no exception, thousands turned up at Langley Park to walk/run to raise money for breast cancer research, including a pink robed Darth Vader and companions.. check out the photo bomber below :)

'Real men wear pink'..

The 8km walk start line on Riverside Drive up towards the Bell Tower and around Langley Park.. twice!

This was what it was all about. Daughters and sons walking for their mums, nannas, cousins and friends who have lost or are fighting the battle.

... and look, at the end we even got a Mother's Day pressie, how cool was that! I got a little excited because I thought it was chocolate, well after 8km that would have been very much appreciated.. the beauty goodies were a lovely idea too :) Hope all you mums out there had or are still having a wonderful day, what did you get up to? Happy Monday, take care and stay safe.. p.s. when we arrived home Aimee did make me the most delicious breakfast.. so good!

Ooops! Wrong timing on the terrace.. happy Mother's Day!

I took one shot that was it.. not realizing until a bit later that it was at the exact moment this gent looked up from his breakfast, oh la! look at that expression :) sorry mate! Early yesterday morning in the city, reflections of the Old Perth Boys School built in 1854, in the warm and welcoming windows of the Dome Westralia Plaza on St Georges Terrace.  Below the OPBS sitting in the shade of surrounding skyscrapers, next door to the Linton and Kay Galleries, housed in the Old Perth Technical School building. Have I mentioned before how much I love St. Georges Terrace :)

Maybe I should have stuck with the first reflection I snapped at the top of the terrace. J'adore the sculpture below that sits in front of the QV.1 building, by the late Charles Perry called 'Enigma'.. it is voluptuously curvy and brilliant to snap from every angle. I'm off to bed early tonight, up at the crack of dawn tomorrow to walk a marathon, what happened to breakfast in bed for Mother's Day :) Here's wishing mums everywhere a happy day, take care and stay safe... p.s. catch up today..

Broken Hill Hotel.. shades of beige.

It may have been a dreary day when I took these shots of the Broken Hill Hotel, but there is nothing dull about this State Heritage listed landmark in Victoria Park. The oldest remaining hotel in VP it was built, like so many of Perth's heritage listed buildings, during the gold rush in the late 1800's. Built in the 'Federation Free Classical style, with corner faceted dome tower' it was thought to be rather grand in its time. Rescued from decay and restored beautifully in 2005 it is now considered one of Perth's best restaurant/pub venues. What do you think, shades of beige never looked so good :) Happy weekend, take care and stay safe..
