His Majesty's on King!

Built in the heady days of the gold rush His Majesty's Theatre, named and built in Edwardian Baroque style after the then reining King Edward VII opened it's doors on Christmas Eve 1904.. what a grand affair that would have been. The only way to get a complete shot of this pristine white beauty is with a wide angle lens which naturally :) I didn't have with me on Monday but as the sky was blissfully blue I took a few detail shots of les petits balcons.. you can see some wonderful old b&w's and more of the inside here. Home to the WA Ballet and the WA Opera companies, the 'Maj' is a much loved theatre venue.. come to think of it it's a while since I've seen a show there, must do something about that soon! "Leaving room for the unexpected"..

In the city yesterday to see the Richard Avedon People exhibition at the Art Gallery WA. No photos allowed, I respect that and sometimes it's more enjoyable soaking up the brilliance of such an accomplished artiste rather than looking to see what you can capture yourself, although there were a couple that I almost risked being thrown out for :) There are many excellent links to Richard Avedon's work, I would urge you to have a look. In another exhibition in the gallery this work by Indigenous Australian artist Gordon Hookey made me smile although if you read the context below it goes deeper, this piece 'challenges the viewer to think about the grassroots reality that Indigenous people grapple with everyday', I wonder how many do. Another week begins, let's hope it's a good one, take care and stay safe..

The Orchid Flower..

The tenacity of plants to grow and survive in the most difficult.. almost impossible circumstances is a mystery and a wonder.  While walking along a bush pathway thick with a heavy layer of eucalyptus leaves.. a little flash of colour, zooming in there the tiniest, most delicate wild orchid pushing it's way through to meet the light. I've always believed that you can't judge strength and determination by size and nature proves me right often. Save Subiaco Station St. Markets!

I read somewhere that in Europe when the locals are shopping for fruit and veg they dislike buying prepackaged goods, preferring to pick and chose their produce carefully.. so do I and thousands of other Perthites and Subiaco residents alike. I think from the way the gentleman above is weighing up his avocados he is definitely European :) Subiaco, sister city to Subiaco in Italy and home to many European settlers in the 1880's is set to change and not in a good way, beginning with the old Subiaco Pavilion Markets below at the end of Rokeby Rd. being developed into this hideous monstrosity, which will be more out of place in Subi than an igloo on the Nullarbor Plain.. if you could see the tree lined old buildings along Rokeby Rd. you would know exactly what I mean.

Across the road, unless as in the1990's when the markets were first under threat from developers and thousands of customers and locals signed petitions and lobbied local gov. officials successfully saving the Subiaco Station St. Markets by Christmas it could be all over and the markets replaced by, wait for it.. Coles and Target, seriously! They've got to be kidding right! You tell me where you'd rather spend time on the weekend weighing up your avocados :) The redhead and I had a brilliant time picking and choosing.. culminating in, I can honestly say one of the best almond croissants I've ever tasted.. I'm not finding that in Coles or Target! Bon weekend, take care..

All the pretty things!

All the lovely things above are in Baker and Shuhandler in Highgate. I see six a few things that if I wasn't trying to prove to P I actually do have some control over my spending habits I'd happily take home! Not in the picture, a small blown glass cockerel, gorgeous colours that would have looked perfect on my kitchen windowsill, not a bad price either.. but I walked out without it, which doesn't mean I won't go back without encumbrance :) Now I'm off to catch up with what you guys have been doing since I nearly expired, dramatic moi, no way! Have a brilliant weekend, take care.. p.s. did you know The Pretty Things were a 1960's British R&B band.. neither did I :) p.p.s. did you know that All the Pretty One's are a range of fabulous hats designed and made by my super talented niece.. I did know that, you might spot a familiar red headed model if you check the photos :)

Cheeky anthropomorphs!

Was happy that I didn't have to go out for today's post, still feeling icky but think I might survive, even though I didn't think so yesterday :) Spotted in Highgate last weekend the larger than life Tandem Riders by NSW husband and wife artists Gillie and Marc, adore the idea of 'RabbitGirl' snapping the stunned passers-by with her camera. Other works by this talented duo I would love to see when in Sydney later this month are 'Crab Riders', in-situ on the beach would be incredible, and 'Happy Birthday Mr. President'.. 

Both animal lovers, applying the 'iconic imagery of the dog/human hybrid to celebrate the powerful spiritual relationship that exists between man and animal' ethos, Gillie & Marc donate a percentage of 'lost dog sales' to animal welfare and adoption, which makes me want one of their lost dogs more than ever :) but not to the point that I would nab one off the street, check out the story of the 'Lost dogs here and watch how within three days they all disappeared, unbelievable!

I didn't check at the time but am guessing also the creators of a sculpture I saw in the fabulous Linton and Kay Gallery in August.. it's got to be, right! A mysterious glimpse!

I have to admit when I downloaded this batch of shots taken a few weeks ago I got quite a start to see this beautiful face appearing just above the waves gazing towards the activities on the beach. Mysterious oui, what do you think, c'est possible :) I have succumbed to the dreaded 'change of season' flu and am feeling very sorry for myself so it's off to bed early (Tuesday) for moi, will catch up to see all your fantastic 'movement' (why does that always make me smile) shots for the theme today.
