Looks like there was a run on escargots, P's personal favourite. Early Sunday morning, 7am, before we set off to Araluen Botanic Park and before we had to queue for a table, we called in at the Mary Street Bakery, on Beaufort Street for breakfast. Slow cooked eggs, with a side of avocado and polenta chips, two cups of steaming hot coffee, and a salted caramel donut for later.. not much later :) sooo good! Check out the menu, what would you have picked? Aimee making the difficult choice below.
A few weeks ago I read a review of the top ten bakeries/patisseries in Australia, the number one choice was the Bourke Street Bakery, I agree, have been there many times and it absolutely deserves that No.1 spot, but.. here's the thing, WA didn't score on the list and my question is this.. did anyone actually make the apparently 'too hard to make the effort' trip over to Perth to check out our fabulous bakeries, I think not! Therefore my personal mission will be to show them to you here.. that's quite alright, my pleasure :) Happy Thursday, take care and stay safe..
Glad I was already eating lunch as I read this. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt is a difficult mission, Grace, but someone has to do it! Looking forward to more bakery trips. ;-))
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm definitely ready for breakfast now!!! Wish I were there!! I love seeing Aimee trying to make a choice!! Such a lovely daughter you do have!!! I do enjoy her blog as well!! Hope you're enjoying your week, Grace!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of escargots, but everything else sounds wonderful, Grace!
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, this would be a frequent stop for me!
ReplyDeleteFancy stuff!
ReplyDeleteWhen visiting Sydney, we usually stay near the Bourke Street Bakery and I have always forgotten to go there. It certainly has a reputation. I wonder what 'sambos' listed on the menu are? Sandwiches? Sambo is a word to be used with great care.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure I could find plenty there to my personal taste!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a delicious breakfast Grace, it's a cool looking place...
ReplyDeleteEscargots bring something quite different to mind. I love fresh bakery treats. I'll have one of each please. Looks like a lovely bakery. Interesting photos.
ReplyDeleteToo many choices! I would never be able to pick only one.
ReplyDeleteThat would have seen you through the day (or did you have afternoon tea at Araluen?)!!
ReplyDeleteWell, I wouldn't pick that hair in the second picture. Hard to say what I would choose since I don't eat a lot of sweets. Do they serve bagels?
ReplyDeleteThat's a bit harsh! Although to be fair long orange hair might not be the right look for you... :)
DeleteThe bakery looks very cosy inside. Not a fan of escargots (the real or sweet type) but I'm sure there are other pastries that would tickle my fancy...
ReplyDeleteI'm all abuzz! Adore them!
ReplyDeleteI've just crawled into bed and you have now made me hungry. One of those apple Danish would do the trick if it just wasn't so far away.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite type of escargot Grace
ReplyDeleteThanks Grace for inviting me and the others who follow your blog in to this wonderful place. I can nearly smell it.... all the way up to here in Stavanger /Norway. It is such a nice and cosy place. And look at all the flowers.... If I ever come to Perth I will visit the place:)
ReplyDeleteI love bakeries, can't resit the smell of fresh baked bread.
ReplyDeleteThose look good!
ReplyDeleteI never heard of slow cooked eggs before. 1 hour sure is slow! I´d try those.
ReplyDeleteI also had to do research on "buttered soldiers" - a bit like our "poor knights". My Granma used to make those, you just give me wonderful childhood-memories, Grace :-)
I did make the effort - and I will do it again!
Seesh. Now I´m hungry.
Do I recognize that red hair in line? What smells come forth. mmmmmmmmmm
ReplyDeleteYour mission, should you accept it, is to return soon and write another review. ;))
ReplyDeleteThe baked goods as well as the cafe look terrific. You won the half-boat "contest" on my blog yesterday!
ReplyDeleteMmm - so delicious!
ReplyDeleteYummy! We don't call them escargots though. You'd want to ask for a pain aux raisins here!
ReplyDeleteWhy, thank you! I always love visiting good bakeries.
ReplyDeleteI recognized Aimee right away. Do I get a prize?
The salted caramel doughnuts were the correct choice!
ReplyDeleteI'll pass on the escargot but send some salted caramel doughnuts asap! There's a life at stake here!
ReplyDeleteNice to see things are still cooking and baking in Perth!
Oh, beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteYour bakeries not only tantalise the taste buds - and I'm not really a foodie - but appear so atmospheric. Go ahead and promote them. They are lovely.
