I apologize straight up for the overload of images but I defy anyone who finds themselves gazing on this truly amazing installation by Korean artist Do Ho Suh named Net-Work to take less than the ??? shots that I took.. and then to choose oh la! Part of the Perth Festival 2014 which began on Friday.. yes, even more going on in Perth, it's crazy! Courtesy of the artist and Lehmann Maupin Gallery this brilliant piece sits on the foreshore of the Swan River looking out over to the city, a more perfect spot does not exist!
A 'fishing net' made up of thousands of tiny gold and chrome plated figures.. the gold lying glistening on the pristine white sand.. the shimmering silver draped down to the waters edge, seriously fabulous!
Golden bodies 'sunbathing'.....
In the images below the net was stirring gently in the breeze marrying with the description of this piece.. 'moving in unison with wind and water, conveys the paradox of fragility and strength in numbers' .. brilliant!
The shot below shows the whole shimmering installation with the city skyline behind. I'm not sure if my images do this piece justice, I think you really have to 'experience' it! If any Perthites out there haven't seen it yet, it will be there in all it's splendour until the 1st of March, absolutely worth a visit! I hope I'm forgiven for going overboard once again.. tomorrow hopefully just one shot :) Happy Wednesday, take care and stay safe.....
That is amazing, Grace!! Such a different art work and so beautiful! I love your photos, you've captured the different views/moods of the net so perfectly!! Thanks for sharing! Hope your week is going well! Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteThat is mesmerizing, Grace!
ReplyDeleteNo no, you should definitely go overboard on this one. This is just amazing. I would love to see it in person. You got some great shots of it. Thanks!
ReplyDeletewonderful serie of pictures... i like your different points of view on this sculpture... Perth still looks like paradise through your eyes... I envy you this view on reality, or perhaps is the city that causes this....
ReplyDeleteThat's really unique!
ReplyDeleteLooking at the thumbnail I thought this was just a cyclone fence, but when I looked at your photos, Wow! An amazing art installation. Your series of photos provides perspective on the art. Great post.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment. I liked the Yoga studio being in a traditional "Medical Arts" building. Yoga is a non-traditional way to look at health.
I, too, was surprised as I went through your photos to see the intricacies of the art work. The human imagination is quite remarkable particularly if coupled with talent!
ReplyDeleteOh, Wow, I love this piece, Grace! Thanks so much for showing it.
ReplyDeleteWhy......?
ReplyDeleteOriginal net, first image is super! Arianna
ReplyDeleteI'm sure this piece would create much discussion while strolling along the beach Grace.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, interesting….
ReplyDeleteI'd be happy to look at as many as you want to share. I am so impressed!!!
ReplyDeleteThat really is an amazing piece and a very impressive concept. I see what you mean about the number of photos, just one shot would not do this piece the justice it deserves and of course, seeing it in person would be the overall best option. But, I'm glad you gave us all these views.
ReplyDeleteArtistic and unique.
ReplyDeleteI like it.
Thank you for sharing these with us. I have never seen this before.
ReplyDeleteI can see why this installation captured your imagination. It can be enjoyed at multiple levels, from simply an undulating net when seen from a distance, to an army of human figures when seen up close. Very clever. Perth has a wealth of public art. (I always get nervous when I type "public.")
ReplyDeleteI think I know how he did it, it could be made with old drink cans or flashing on a chain link fence.
ReplyDeleteNeat job!
Where do people get such ideas and then manage to execute them so well. It immediately made me think of shark nets, but we won't go there. With the disappearance of drink can ring pulls so has sculpture made by the working class man. Good for the environment, but not for the arts.
ReplyDeleteOoh, I love these and the 6th one of it billowing in the wind gets to me - so beautiful! I'd love to know where the artist's inspiration came from:)
ReplyDeleteVery powerful installation, love it!
ReplyDeletePerth is a city of wonders!

Great installation but I would not want to be the one to put it up and take it down.
ReplyDeleteLove the shot with all the curves and ripples!
ReplyDeleteUnic, impressive, clever, funny, beautiful.. Many words come to mind in front of such a piece of art!
ReplyDelete"Apology" granted, Grace - aww - that´s clever and beautiful, I love this!
ReplyDeleteI mean... that doesn´t have to be "just" art, right? This can be used in practical life - would be so nice! Nets are in use so much....
It's stunning. As is that blue (sorry, I'm typing from the land of grey skies, lol!)
ReplyDeleteWill this be permanent, or is it a temporary installation?
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is an amazing installation! I love the location and also the play of light and shadows.
ReplyDeleteWow that is so amazing - we can't blame you for taking a few shots Grace - thanks for doing so! So much work in that, it's unbelievable! Joy x
ReplyDeleteYou always find the most amazing stuff! I must go and see it, it's close to my work place.
ReplyDeleteRemarkably clever from a simple concept, and great photos Grace.
ReplyDeleteLove this Net-Work, fine images, Grace!
