Horticultural assistance required.....!

I've just realized that as from Friday it is now officially winter here in Australia (June, July and August) and I don't think I've posted one autumn image. It's probably a case of 'too little, too late' but I didn't have to go far for this one, it's sitting in my front garden, and as I've been a touch 'off the last few days (oh woe is me, cough! cough! haha!) this is my one and only homage to autumn!! I'm sure when I planted this tree over ten years ago I was under the impression it was a Japanese Maple, but even though there are apparently over 400 varieties I don't seem to be able to find one with this shape of leaf.  It has soft green leaves in spring and summer, turning to red/orange in autumn and dropping off in winter and was classified as a small tree, which it is. Any ideas? Up at the crack of dawn and off to Boyup Brook and back today, a small country town 269 kms south/south east of Perth for a family 'do', will tell you all about it tomorrow, nearly 550 kms in one day phew! looking forward to it.. and not, all at the same time! Hope your Sunday is a little more relaxing, take care.....
Aimee took this one on her walk through Pinneroo Reserve today, it's like an 'autumn garland' oui!

  7. I have had numerous Japanese maples over the year, and this has no resemblance to the ones I know. But, it does turn a nice red in the fall. Hope your health does an upturn soon.

  8. Your tree doesn't look like a Japanese maple to me! The leaf seems to be the wrong shape and texture! But I have no idea what it could be! Maybe ask NixBlog at Melbourne Fresh Daily. He does a FloralFridayFoto meme.

  12. I have 2 Japanese Red maples - look nothing like this one. Apparently Andrew gave you the name...nice to have people who can identify the trees! It is really hard to think about you going into winter now...we are starting summer - temps have been around 80F these last few days, but a bad storm last night with tornadoes touching down not far away. We were unscathed, thankfully! Glad you are feeling better.

  15. I can't help you with your tree but Aimee's vine is what we call Virginia Creeper in the US. It grows everywhere and is one of the first plants to turn bright red in the Fall.

  16. Never too late Grace. Nice Autumn colours. I love the red in the Virginia creeper. It really heralds Autumn and the oncoming winter. We planted one only last year.

  19. I love winter and have just been "into" autumn leaves also. Call it winter madness. Glad not to be dashing off like you were today Grace. Hope that all went well and that you do not arrive back in Perth too exhausted.

  23. You have the start of winter and we have the start of summer and the start has been brutal. Record temperatures hit this weekend. It's too soon for this kind of heat.

  24. For a minute I thought we were getting nearer Christmas but then, of course, we are... These are such vibrant and happy colours!

  25. It must be some kind of maple...but whatever, it is quite pretty. Do you have a cold winter or is it more like ours here in Ocala - mild and pleasant?

Thank you for your nice words of welcome back!
