Yesterday I had an appointment in the city and while walking through one of the arcades afterwards I spied a group of very old photo's of Perth circa 1900, fascinating stuff! So amazing to see dirt roads and horse and carriages where there are now wide avenues and queues of traffic. I think I've mentioned before that my favorite street in the city is St. Georges Terrace, the heritage buildings nestled amongst the skyscrapers make a great contrast, so I chose this old photo of St. Georges Terrace to do my 'then and now' comparison, there were two pictures of the Terrace, unfortunately the one with all the horse and carriage action going on was directly under a light and impossible to get a shot without a flare, this one is pretty quiet, maybe a weekend, I wish it was a little clearer and minus the dribbles of goodness knows what, but we are talking one hundred and twelve years ago, you can see that even way back then this wide road was destined for great things! I like the sky, makes me wonder if whoever took this shot all those many years ago, didn't do a little bit of tweaking haha!
Oh and btw...Happy Valentine's Day.....!
quelques petits changements ;)))
ReplyDeleteNice post. I really like these now and then pictures. I wonder what the present day St. Georges Terrace would look like after 112 years?
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, Grace. I love now and then shots...so much fun.
ReplyDeleteOh, sure, I would recognize it as the same place.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day, Grace.
Wow! Happy Valentine's Day to you as well.
ReplyDeleteI love finding these old archival pics too.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day to you too Grace!
Wonderful comparison. Happiness and a good Tuesday for you all.
ReplyDeleteI can see the dip in the road in both photos, and there the similarities end.
ReplyDeleteNicely shown!

Amazing the changes that take place! I can't even tell it is the same place - what a great find!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a difference. St. Georges Terrace has grown up!
ReplyDeleteI quite like St George's terrace too. What a change in over 100 years!
ReplyDeleteWhat a contrast! It was beautiful then and now. Wishing you a day full of Chocolates!
ReplyDeleteThe changes are certainly eye opening. Happy Valentines Day :-).
ReplyDeleteI love the then and now posts... Hope you are having a great Valentines day...
ReplyDeleteI think that because our history is relatively 'young', we are constantly amazed at the transformations in the cities. Lovely to see the two shots of the same place.
ReplyDeleteI like then and now photos. It really makes you think about progress both good and bad.
ReplyDeleteI love the then and now posts, this one is incredible. I was leafing through a book of old postcards of Versailles, it hasn't changed in the last 100 years. The only differences I could spot were clothing and cars! :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day!
Your then and now post is magnificent, show us two different worlds!
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day to you!
Quite the contrast!
ReplyDeleteQue de fenêtres! et de coeurs cachés derrière!...
ReplyDeleteHeureuse St Valentin, Gracie!
I prefer the old pic! Is that fighter jets flying overhead in that one perhaps....?
ReplyDeleteI like seeing these sorts of contrast shots.
ReplyDeletebeautifully shot
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentines day !
ReplyDeleteI notice a few changes between now and then.. :o)
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's day!
I like then-and-now photos. I have a collection of old, 19th and early 20th century travel books so I can compare the old engravings and early photos with the same scenes today.
ReplyDeletehi grace! ^0^
ReplyDeletehappy valentines to you too!
love the big rouge coeur! ^0^
i can't say i love the then more than the now,
i'm having second thoughts.
can i say both instead?!
superb take!
What a difference a decade makes .. happy valentine's day to you, Gracie .. ♥♥ ♥♥ ♥♥
ReplyDeleteI always like this kind of comparison. In this case the difference is striking!
ReplyDeleteWow! The growth is unbelievable! Happy Valentine's Day to you as well!
ReplyDeletewhat a difference, impressive !
ReplyDeletehave a good Valentine's day. ciao
What an amazing contrast. I often wonder what my grandparents would think of our world now... They saw incredible changes during their lifetimes. My parents, now in their 80s, are electronically connected with cell phones, downloading photos, and programming their TIVO. (My mom does NOT text or tweet, however!)
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful Valentine's Day, dear friend.

I love this kind of "before" and "after" shot. It's amazing how much things change, but really remain the same. Nice contrast here. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is an amazing transformation, Grace. We have similar photos up on display boards in strategic parts of the city and it's quite interesting to contemplate past and present superposed.
ReplyDeleteAnd a happy Valentine's Day to you, Grace. Love that early photo, but like yours much better...yours reminds me of a canyon in the middle of the mountains - it's a great urban landscape!
ReplyDeleteWhat a contrast indeed! I think old photos of familiar places fascinate everyone. Changes always are amazing.
ReplyDeleteSeeing the difference is so amazing! I love these "back then" comparison posts :D
