Fire .....
Perthites awoke yesterday morning to find the city and suburbs blanketed by a smoke haze blown up the coast by the southerly winds from a fire burning out of control in the karri forests in the South West. 15,500ha have burned through already with the expectation of double that by the time the fire is brought under control. It was only at the beginning of this month that I did a post about the Koalas and other native animals that suffer and worse in situations like this and it makes me unbelievably sad to think about it happening again now. I took these pictures last night on Sorrento beach, you can see the smoke haze being blown in by the strong sea breeze! The bittersweet irony is that I love the images, but the price to pay for them is too high.....

c'est magnifique, la premiere photo est un vrai poster, j'adore
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots for a very sad situation Grace.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. The images are beautiful but, I have to agree, the price is way too high. Very sad news indeed.
ReplyDeleteI do so agree with Luis, such beautiful shots for a very sad situation indeed! I hope they get it under control soon. These really are breathtaking, Grace!

I'm in Adelaide at the moment, hadn't heard of it. How terrible, hope it's under control soon. Lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do have enough of fire as well. Must be about four months from now until they will start over here as well, probably both, in the woods and in the city. Please have a good Wednesday.

So sorry to hear about the fires - the devastation takes so long to repair. The photos are lovely, but it is a bittersweet beauty. Hoping all is under control soon. Have a wonderful day, Grace!
ReplyDeleteSpooky stuff! Hope they get it under control.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the fires, Grace. I hope they stay a long distance from you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind comment today. A little humor gets us through the day.
Smoke in the air doth make for great sunsets, but that is probably the only good thing about it. So sad that so many animals suffer and die due to these fires. We have a lot of forest fires here in central Florida which can be very difficult for people with respiratory problems.
ReplyDeleteHope that the fires are brought under control soon. Your photos, though, are excellent; especially the big moon. But you knew that! :-)
@Lowell: I think you'll find that's the sun setting over our lovely beaches. Yes, the haze got worse before it got better and they say it will all be blown back inland again today, when he sea breezes return. Always lovely photos Gracie.
ReplyDeleteSueC.
It looks rather apocalyptic. or perhaps like sunrise/set in the foul air of Beijing.
ReplyDeleteWishing your fresh winds, friend!

I agree, very beautiful photos, but how they came to be is a sad reality
ReplyDeleteBonza photos especially the 2nd photo :-).
ReplyDeleteFires are tragedies. It is a tax for warm weather. In southern Europe in the summer months are also common. But pictures are beautiful. I would send you a little cold and you here a little heat. What do you think? Ha, ha. Sincerely, Peter.
ReplyDeleteThis brings back bad memories of our last fire season. So sorry to hear about this. Stay out of the bad air.
ReplyDeleteMagnifiques photos! Mais il est bien triste de penser que des milliers de petits animaux ont été détruits par l'incendie...
ReplyDeleteBonne journée, Gracie!
so sad...i live in southern California and we get these fire storms quite often...we, too, loose abundant wildlife which breaks my heart. your photography is superb...i hope is under control very soon! so sorry to hear this...
ReplyDeleteYes the photos are beautiful. The caption of course isn't a happy one. Every summer the south of France burns...
ReplyDeleteWonderful country ... one of my dreams is to visit along with my bike, get to know it and merge with nature.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing
WOW - Lovely image for Valentines' day! Your country are wonderful! We have cold and snow :-(
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing
:-) Dorthe
les photos nous donnent envie d'une promenade au bord de la plage
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful but it is a great shame about the fires
ReplyDelete:-(
Sorry about the fires, but they sure make for beautiful photos... Same goes for smog, sometimes.
ReplyDeleteHope they get fires under control. Great photos. Were you and Rae on the same beach today?
ReplyDeleteAlways amazing to be on a beach drowned in these kinds of sunsets ... beautiful !
ReplyDeleteThose must be huge fires to get so much smoke.... Bush fires?
ReplyDeleteWe really do live at the mercy of the elemnts, don't we? Dare I ask if the bushfires were caused naturally or was it arson? Yes, it's always tragic for the wildlife...and sometimes for us humans too. However, there is a strange beauty in the end result of your photos.
ReplyDeleteIt's the skies we all dread here in Australia .... Beautiful to look at but bush fires out of control cause so much damage and heartache! Hopefully this one is soon under control.
ReplyDeletesad to hear about the fire,
ReplyDeletesuch irony we have in life.
the photos you've posted are great though esp the close up one...
Superb images!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, wonderful pictures, but how not to think about nature and wild animals suffering?
ReplyDeleteYou already had such big fires last year, did not you? It's awful!I live in a place where we also have fires, and I know the problem and understand you perfectly..
@Al: the fire was started by lightening.
ReplyDelete@biebkriebels: We're a huge state... and the fire is a fair way away, so yet, it's big. If you look on Google maps at Perth and Northcliff further south, that's where the fires are.

Great pics mind!
ReplyDeleteAwful news, but the photos are superb!
ReplyDeleteI hope no lives were lost .. and those are indeed good pix
ReplyDeletewhat a atmosfhere there.. so romantic ! ciao
ReplyDeleteThe fires are so destructive but you have found the b eauty there. Hope things improve soon.

Beautiful photographs, but they have a sad cause, Grace. Always worrisome to hear about bushfires especially for us here in Victoria with the most recent ones being so destructive and tragically fatal...
ReplyDeleteI hope the fires are contained soon! And yes, the photo of the sun is absolutely gorgeous...can only hope no one is injured because of this.
ReplyDeleteThat is pretty tragic for something like this to happen. Wonderful photos though. I'm quite sad also. It's quite shocking how the world works sometimes, isn't it?
DeleteBad fire, but makes for great photos and colors
