An organ with a bit of brass.....!

Ok so I know I posted way too many pictures yesterday but I did save these last few of the organ for today because I thought it deserved to be shown without distraction. The West Organ, one of three organs in the cathedral, was installed in 1993 with the final pièce de résistance the addition of a solo, horizontal fanfare trumpet voiced in the French symphonic school and installed by the South Island Organ Co in April last year. I haven't heard them, something I hope to remedy in the not too distant future, but if they sound as good as they look I'm in for a real treat...and on that 'note' (I know, I know!), as it's getting to the point where we can actually leave messages for each other e.g. 'mum, can we have pasta for dinner tonight, love Aimee xx' in the dust on the furniture, I may have to do some 'Spring' cleaning, so I'll catch you in a day or two, in the meantime, happy week, take care and stay safe.....

  2. Those are amazing looking horizontal horns -- I don't think I've seen or at least noticed that on any of the large pipe organs that I've seen.

  7. Terrific! - I can almost hear them! One of my favourite memories is chancing on an organ recital at St. Pauls Cathedral in London, yes, that St Pauls. Something no to be forgotten.

  8. Can't imagine what it must feel like to be at the controls of such a massive musical beast. And it's not only the organ itself; the whole cathedral will vibrate and sing in response to the organists hand. Amazing!

  11. Wow. It is beautiful. I hope you do go back to hear an organ concert.

A break, you say? My house is looking kind of gritty, too . . .

I saw a sign recently that said" A clean house means there is a broken computer"

  15. That top image either shouts out Hallelujah! or shows off enough artillery to repel any devilish attack.

  18. Okay....so I'm not into churches so much but I do love their huge organs. When a person plays those keys, it's like watching the Sound of Music and hearing "How do you solve a problem like Maaaaria!" That has got to be something to hear live.

  19. Organ music, along with tambourines, ought to be banned by law!
The pictures of the criminal elements are good however.
